@JamboWayOh I spent that long trying to like it because I paid for it. Generally I try to stick to "if I buy it I finish it" I was also convinced at some point my opinion would align with the general consensus. I assumed I was missing something.
I found the quests boring because they boiled down to collect a bunch of stuff or buy it. Go here to one of 1 trillion dots, follow shitty immersion breaking, hard to follow spidey sense. Fight some shit only to find the reward wasn't worth it be that loot or story. I didn't have the time to tackle 5 pointless quests before finding a better one. That coupled with the endless icons took away the opportunity to genuinely feel like you were exploring the lovely world they created. I felt funneled from one quest to another and the volume of quests and mini quest filler was simply overwhelming with most of it not being fun or interesting enough. I'd read that the Bloody Baron stuff was good but even that was boring to play. I'd of enjoyed just watching it a lot more.

This made me laugh! Look I'm not saying it's a bad game. I just really didn't enjoy it. Someone mentioned if you speak to everyone and poke around it becomes much richer but that's exactly what I did which made it feel even more of a slog. It asks too much of you to get the best out of it which is fine if it feels organic and you are naturally compelled to wander about. but it doesn't feel that way. Not for me anyway I'd argue if the Witcher is one of the best examples of a game in terms of writing and minute to minute gameplay it does a better job of reminding you how far games can still go. I also think it's a better story than a game and I believe a game should always be a fun game first and anything else second. It's also worth saying that I think Skyrim GTA and assassin's creed etc are rubbish games too once you become aware of the underlying structure and you realise how samey the actual missions are. Put it this way Witcher 3 was a lot better than all if those for my 30hrs. I just don't see what the major fuss is about. The only two open world games I ever really liked were Red Dead 1 and Breath of the Wild. I rarely finish a Zelda either outside of the handheld entries. I'm currently trying to enjoy Skyward Sword which is fin so far but I can feel myself drifting off at the 15 hour mark. Basically I just don't think most open world games nail the key aspect of letting you explore while keeping a feeling of progress moving along. |
