So at the weekend, I wanted to shift a load of computer components in aid of the community goal. Reluctantly I switched from my Asp X to my Python, even though I don't feel like it's ready for prime time yet. Can't knock the cargo capacity, though, so I decided it was well worth the risk so long as I didn't get interdicted.

Immediately the jump range was driving me nuts and by the time I had gone from Rhea to Momoirent - a breeze in my Asp X, but a pain in the Python - I decided I had to go for the 5A FSD if I was going to live with it.

I was delighted to find that Junlong Terminal in Azaladshu, just one jump away, had the 5A in stock. I emerge from there almost six million credits lighter in the wallet and make my way back to Rhea, my current base, parked up and went about the house doing domestic stuff in real life.

Returning later I took a bunch of missions but forgot I had switched to the Python before requesting a launch. Realising this was risky, I decided to just go for it and head to a nearby planet for a scan job.

That done I got a mission update asking me to salvage landmines on the same planet, so I nip round, land and do the deed after a run in with some security drones. It's only when I get back to the ship that I discover I'm now wanted in the system (24 hour bounty) and carrying illicit cargo.

A dilemma - I'm now stuck in an under-armed, under-shielded ship, the missions I took expire in 23 hours and they're worth over 1 million credits. And so begins a ridiculous game of trying to sneak into Ito Orbital station without being scanned. I had to turn & burn three times before I finally made it to a pad and handed over the landmines. It was ridiculously stressful!

Success there emboldened me to sneak into another station in the system to turn in the other half million mission that would expire. Got in the first time, but due to the traffic it was unbearably tense - had to crawl through the mail slot at half the speed limit, stuck behind a beluga liner taking its sweet time.

Crept back out again, still wanted (I thought that would expire after I paid the fine, but no) and pegged it to a nearby system to wait out the bounty period.

A lot of people rag on the "write your own narrative" aspect of the game, but that whole scenario happened by complete accident and for me it was the most brilliantly tense, yet unscripted gameplay! :D
