You'd have thought there'd be a market for something like this. A mini AV receiver, hidden away behind the TV, to drive speakers in certain minimalist AV scenarios where bulky AV boxes are not appropriate. A well set up receiver rarely needs to be touched anyway. It seems, however, that they don't really exist as far as I can tell. Best you can do is half height ones. My ill educated guess is that perhaps they need to be a certain size to fit the components needed for amplification. I had exactly this scenario six months ago - the choice was to go with a regular AV receiver or use powered monitors and plug sources straight into the telly. In the end the receiver won, but at the cost of aesthetics in that particular room. You could just buy another mini hifi from ebay for probably not much money.
