I’ve watched the sport for over thirty years and I can think of only one single other time when it happened, which ironically was Alonso doing it to Hamilton, in retaliation for shenanigans earlier in that session.

The standard Hamilton fan excuse for his bullshit constantly swings between outright denial and “other people would be as unsportsmanlike too if they had the chance” but it’s just not true. This has been consistent through his career, there are too many incidents to count going all the way back to when he was starting out and he outright lied to stewards to try to get other drivers penalised, which really set the tone for his attitude through his career.

Red Bull didn’t have a fast enough car today to fight for pole, Hamilton could have fought fair and won, but instead he let his mask slip yet further with these tactics. I have no particular fondness of Max but as a neutral fan of the sport the constant dirty tactics of Hamilton and Mercedes (along with the gaslighting from the UK commentators) really wear down any enthusiasm.
