I've had enough of my boring terrace garden and want to give it a new look for the summer season.

We got a leaflet through the door of a garden designer but they want 600 for a "full garden design" service.

Screw that, I thought, will do it myself. How hard can it be?

I've had a look for garden design software to help translate my A4 sketches into reality. The BBC offer a fairly basic bit of kit called The Virtual Garden which seems OK.

Google Sketchup seems to be another option and you can pay 19 to these guys for some garden-related items to use with it.

Anyone got any experience with this software, or any alternatives? Would prefer a free option if possible.
