Right now I'm about 2/3 through "Kingdom of Fear" by the late Hunter S. Thompson. It's my first book from this guy and being a big fan of the "Fear and Loathing in LV" movie, I can't believe it took me so long to finally read one of his books.
Hey, what a coincidence - me too. I'm enjoying it but it doesn't seem to be quite what I hoped. Too much getting one over on the legal system so far and not enough sex, drugs & rock'n'roll...

As a sort of rule, the earlier the work the better. The book that made him was 'Hells Angels', which is just brilliant. If you want his most astute political articles, have a read of 'The Great Shark Hunt' which is by far the best of his compilation books.

I'm an unashamed fan, but a lot of his later stuff only showed flashes of what was sustained brilliance in his earlier writing.

Back on topic, I'm working through Bill Brysons back catalogue.
