Only if you've already decided that a system of taxation is valid by default. If you step outside that and consider that the vast majority of people resent paying tax and the punishments in place for those who choose not to, it doesn't look that way.

Sure there are benefits to it, but in reality it was born out of strong taking from the weak and elements of that remain.
