    Maybe people have never worked in a half decent place or maybe they just love being doomsayers.

    For me it's been about 50/50. It has a lot to do with your own level of experience/employability. When you're at the bottom rung you end up at companies with idiots.

    When you're a few notches up and you can pick and choose, people tend to leave if they work with idiots and more choosy companies who have retained staff tend to have a much better atmosphere.

    Either that or it's just been complete coincidence that the first few companies I worked for sounded just like yours and the last few have been 95% great.

    EDIT: so to sum up, yes it's pretty crap but if/when you become highly employable and you can start being selective you'll end up working at low staff turnover companies with good environments and people.
