The higher you go in football, the more of a disconnect there seems to be between fans and clubs. I pity 'big 6' fans. You don't even exist in your club's minds. You're only there as a drone swarm, buying their shite and carrying their brand.
To be honest, being a top six fan isn't great. A certain level of entitlement starts to emerge from the fan base. I kinda mocked Liverpool fans for it when they had a little bit of success, turns out our fans our no different. I went to a few spurs games in our first season at Wembley, and everyone just fucking moaned the whole time, and some of the shit that was dished out to players, especially Trippier was grim. It was just a shit place to be, despite doing really well at the time. A large portion of the fanbase just start s to devalue everything, certain cups aren't good enough, if you don't win 5-0 we're shit. You kind of lose objectivity of your reading of the game, and don't respect other sides.
If it's your local team, that you followed through thick and thin, that's different and I'm gutted for you. As a fan of my local team who nearly disappeared in the nineties through mismanagement from dispassionate calculating money men, I have sympathy.
The reality is the vast majority of big 6 fans are plastic whiny babies following some plastic oligarch owner's vanity project.
Success is earned, integrity is earned. Arsenal are ninth because they're mid table dross and have been heading that way the best part of a decade. Leeds were in the desert for the best part of 20 years because they were a bang average team, and worked hard to come back.
You're as good as your last season. Just because a club is good at selling hats and branded bed spreads means fuck all.
