Science decries religion for not being scientific. Religion complains that it never said it was scientific.|
Big f'ing surprise.
They are fundamentally different things so using one the language of one to evaluate the other is pointless.
Science has lots to say about religion - sociologically, physiologically, economically, etc. But none of that matters to the concept of religion because religion isn't a scientific theory for the religious.
That is the point - it is something different, outside of science.
And if you can't cope with anything being outside of science you will always see religion as people making a scientific mistake.
