Just binged 6 series of Bosch on Amazon prime in the last few weeks and really enjoyed it. Solid 8/10 vibes and makes me want to go back to Los Angeles again. It felt a little like The Wire lite. At first I thought that was because it stars Lance Reddick (Cedric Daniels) and Jamie Hector (Marlo Stansfield) but it's also co-created by one of the main creators of The Wire so shares an intangible similar vibe. There are also two aging cops called Crate and Barrel who seem mostly there for comic relief and felt reminiscent of some of the incomeptent detectives from The Wire, too, so clearly there are some shared tropes. So yeah, I'm not saying it's as good as The Wire because it's not (season 5 goes a little bit Jack Bauer) but if you're looking for a gritty detective drama and it wasn't on your radar, check it out. Basically if you like The Shield, The Wire and Southland you'll be all over this. |
