The Watch 1/10 I am the biggest book wanker, Terry Pratchett is my favourite author, and the watch series of books I have found his most compelling for me. I think they have tried to rationalise this version of events as an alternate dimension or something, but they have really missed the essence of the characters completely. No Nobby Nobbs or Sergeant Colon, who are essentially the beating heart of the books (or the common man if you will). To many characters retconned, Carrot should not be this angry, Sybil is supposed to be naive about the real world (not carry a fucking axe), Angua shouldn't be this cynical. Carcer is from my favourite book and should not be introduced this early. What are they doing killing Detritus? Vimes, should, in the beginning be down and out, but he should also know how to fight, it's pretty much what he is there for. The worst thing for me, is that the series has a wealth of material to call upon, but have tried to retcon stories from four of the books (so far, I'm only about halfway through, I may be breaking the rules) into one incoherent story. Less said about the band the better. I fucking hated it. |
