The WiiU would have been fine if it had released in the same launch window as the 360 and the PS3. The unique problem here is that it has a very brief period to build up a userbase before everyone takes their money to the next gen, and it appears that this opportunity has been blown and the gamble in releasing out-of-cycle hasn't paid off.

The question is what do Nintendo do next.
The launch of the PS4 and 720 doesn't mean an end to Wii U sales. Once Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc. appear many who have bought the other consoles will also buy a Wii U. I don't think Nintendo ever expected to be number 1 or even 2.

It's an HD console and by the nature of the games that Nintendo releases I don't think it'll look that dated. Luigi's Mansion on the GameCube still holds up well.

Not sure why people can't just accept that the Wii U sales won't pick up until a big hitter arrives. Consider it a failure when the big hitters don't sell or don't even appear. Until then change the record (fat chance).
