Are you seriously of the opinion that nothing new can come from Film & Games? What about the Art, Music and Literature? Has everything been done there too?
It's not just my opinion, it's a widely held belief in Hollywood that 'every story has been told'. I don't know enough about Art Music and Literature to comment, but in games, yeah- there's nothing more that can be done with the actual 'stories' or genres. What can and will change is the delivery of them.
I'm at a loss. Where are you hearing this widely held belief?

At the risk of sounding uninformed my self and just off the top of my head, I can think of several films that deliver original stories - Primer, Brick, Memento, Fight Club, AI, Alpha Dog. I'll stop there as, to me at least, it's pretty obvious that there are countless other examples.

I'd say that whats true for film is also true for Art, Music, Games & Literature. Sure, there are many retelling's / rehashes of old stories but there are also, many, many examples of something new. People are creative, they make new things, whatever their specialism - Science, Engineering, IT and the creative arts.
