If you liked Ready Player One and want to try another book about video games (there's not many about) I'd recommend Tim Etchells's "Broken World." It's written in the form of an FAQ for an imaginary game but the narrator keeps going off topic to discuss the steady decline of his private life. Anyone who has ever spent too much time playing games will relate to the main character but the real star is the game itself which starts simple enough but gets increasingly surreal and fantastical. Its not a shouty, pacy book like ready player one but if you're in the mood for something a bit more mellow it's well worth a try. |
