I'm tired of the lies that have propagated for the last six years. In fact, FEW games have a locked internal resolution on the frame buffer. Period. COD4+ are the most commonly quoted, so I'll show that. Frankly, I'm dissipointed that the so neither the so called "experts" that write for DF, nor the "community" have picked up with this.
Truely, you people are 4-5 years behind my level.

This is console COD, run through various resolution/format & video outputs on an xbox 360.

640*480 VGA vs 848*480 VGA vs 1920*1080 VGA vs 1080p HDMI

1080p HDMI vs 1080p VGA vs 1080p Component vs 848*480 VGA

    640*480 vs 720p vs 1080i vs 1080p

Something else interesting, is that many years ago Infinity Ward claimed the FOV was locked on console COD to a narrow 60* because of performance issues. This is also disprove as there is virtually ZERO impact from running a 160* FOV vs the default 60* FPV. 1-2fps on average across the board.
Console COD should increase it to the more traditional 90-110* FOV range.
