The more I play it (now about 70 hours in), the more I settle on a comparison with games like Deus Ex, or even Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines, but with a massive open map. What it really isn't - an open-world sandbox.

It really, really reminds me of the original Deus Ex in a ton of ways. Lots of ways to play the game, none of them really stand up to the pure-bred versions in other games, but it's all there wrapped up in a nice story.

The gameplay systems are not quite deep enough, however, and too many of the fun abilities in the non-shooting systems come too late. Should offer the player more tools, earlier, giving you a better sense of how each tree plays out. Also not enough tools at your disposal, compared to something like a Dishonored.

Still, when it works, it really works. Like the original Deus Ex (which broke down a bit if you looked too closely), to me it's more than the sum of its parts. Haven't played a game that's as atmospheric in a while, and I think a couple of years of patches and DLC and this is going to be as good as anything out there.
