Don't break it off with the current girlfriend, she's vulnerable and in a fragile place. It could devastate her. How could you do this to her after her close family relative died? It will make you look so uncaring. Timing is everything. Let her down gently. You can still text and see if the 2nd girl does want to go on a date. You can just call it a friendship at the beginning and see if your gut instincts are right. My advice is follow your own heart and do not listen to your head or anyone else's.
