Just played/watched (ho ho!) this round my friends earlier after work for about forty five minutes. a) Best graphics ever. I mean ever up to present day. There was a moment where a cutscenes 'ends' and the gameplay begins; I was waiting for something to happen to suggest that you can now take control of the character and when it didn't and I begun to move to walk forward, well ... I was genuinely blown away. b) The surprisingly few QTEs (so far) are okay. Combat is okay too however, the feedback and animations (of the weapons) gives it that little bit more oomph whereas the enemy AI is unfortunately as average as it gets although I have seen far, far worse in all honesty. The reload animation is rather pleasing to see, I must add. c) A slow start that could have been a little bit more interesting - it sets the story well, but it doesn't make you any more or less curious than when you first begin the game. The voiceovers are very professional to the point that they are perhaps not quite the right tone of voices to be heard within that era although I wasn't born back in 1886 so, what do I know? d) For those who struggle with lengthy cutscenes followed by five minutes of gameplay only for the game to take away any further input for another cutscene may as well ignore this altogether. After 45 minutes, I was beginning to enjoy the visceral combat just as the game wrestles the controls off of you and goes into yet another 'hands off' cutscene. e) I think this would be a perfect game to play on a rainy Sunday for £20. The low(er) value and the relatively short length is a okay way to pass a dull Sunday. I'd probably do the same at some point in the foreseeable future. f) I know reviews are opinionated and debatable however, unless the game drops sharply in quality after the opening scenes, I couldn't really look at a review that gives The Order something like a 2, 3 or 4 out of 10 with a serious face. It is also really nice to be able to play a game that has isn't broken or in need of a patch or twenty on day one either. So yeah, The Order is just okay in the grand scheme of things. I have to say though, it makes all the difference seeing those astonishing visuals - that raises the bar so high - that you cannot help but step back a little bit and admire them. : ) |
