    When I first moved into my current house BT gave me the old (deceased) occupant's number. Being old, they'd not registered on any telephone preference services and failed to tick/not tick the "don't call me" options so I'd get a lot of calls for them. I'd patiently tell the sales person that the person they wanted had died and I was the new owner. They would honestly say things like "I'll try again later then." Probably worth trying because they might be alive again later.
