    A sad loss.

    Not really surprising to be honest, I've been waiting for this news for a while now. He was clearly fading fast.

    He was one of the great figures of American literature in the late 20th century. A sad day indeed.

    So many of his contemporaries lived fast and died young, then became immortalised for it. I'm not surprised he chose to end it like this. To achieve immortality you must first lead a life worth remembering, but an interesting death also helps, as I'm sure he was aware.

    Hunter S. Thompson, didn't live in peace and with his legacy, he won't rest in it either. A great man.
