What are people's personal issues with this, then? As individuals, what problems are the gaming press causing you? Have you spent money on games that you were told are good but didn't enjoy? If so, which titles?

I've been playing games since I was young, but I've never bought a bad game because of a good review that I can think of. I have, however, bought games that were reviewed poorly that I absolutely loved. I kind of know what I like and I've never felt like I need to be told what to buy.

I actually find most big games to be extremely dull, so praise and high review scores mean nothing to me as I've already made up my mind.

Looking back, I remember a lot of people being excited for Aliens: Colonial Marines until the reviews put everyone off - or did they? It still topped the charts, yet those of you in the know who read the reviews knew to avoid it. So, in conclusion, people know what they want, but reviews are there to give you peace of mind that the game you've already chosen is for you.
