BioShock 2 Takes a while to get going but overall this is a great follow-up to the original. I liked the new defensive combat mechanics, which distinguishes it significantly enough from the first game to make it feel like more than merely an improvement over it. Rapture is an incredible setting that does a good job of making up for a pretty lacklustre story. The depictions of collectivism and individualism are so caricatured that the game really has nothing interesting to say about either. The best of the story is outside of the main plot, in the characters you meet in different areas. I liked this game a lot more than I thought I would. 8/10 Bioshock Infinite: Burial At Sea I managed to like Bioshock Infinite in spite of its gross, racist reactionary political message, which they actually double down on in this game with the depiction of the Vox Populi leader in the second episode. Leaving that aside, though, it was nice to get to explore more of Rapture and the stealth gameplay during Elizabeth's episode was enjoyable if a bit underdeveloped. The plot is just incomprehensible and I had basically no interest in working out what was actually going on. Glad I played it, though, I guess it was a decent end to the series. 7/10 Valiant Hearts: The Great War A powerful little puzzle game. I say 'little' but this game is actually surprisingly long and substantial. Puzzles were fun and intuitive, story and characters were great and the historical diaries and facts gave an excellent insight into the first world war. The ending was particularly touching. A very fine game. 8/10 Edited by CitizenGeek at 15:21:24 19-02-2015 |
