@FuzzyDucky Automata isn’t really an open world game though, the map is a fraction the size of Witcher 3’s and the emptiness is part of the broader post-apocalyptic plot. I think lots (most even?) developers focus on creating huge open world maps that actually don’t have anything interesting at all in them. The enjoyable parts of Witcher 3 were the linear, main quest sections IMO. I would say the best kind of open worlds are in games like the original Mass Effect trilogy - you get to visit lots of different areas but only small, interesting areas of them. Andromeda was such a massive disappointment compared to the original trilogy because it moved away from concentrating on quality and toward quantity so that we ended up with multiple, massive maps but nothing of any interest on them. I realise I’m clearly in a minority re: open world games given that’s seemingly what sells and it’s what so many developers are concentrating on but I just don’t get the appeal.
