So, I finished Ghost Recon Breakpoint and (whisper it), I really enjoyed it.

I can definitely see why it was so poorly received, the original mode seems nothing like a Ghost Recon game and coupled that with the laugh out loud (it's not supposed to be btw) cut scenes and a fair smattering of bugs it would have been terrible.

However,tThe new "immersive" mode is great. It disables the weapon score rubbish and if you turn off pretty much all of the usual stuff like recharging health, mini-map, stims, vehicle summons and put the AI on hard turns it into a really good experience.

Getting across the map to a new objective feels like a real mission, working out the route, avoiding drones and crafting upgrades just to make it. The gunplay is tight and planning out how to take down a base an objective always felt great.

It also does something which I'd like to see in more games, where a mission objective isn't a marker on screen but a description of a rough area on the map. So you either have to look for it or find some intel to pinpoint it. It's never hard, but just adds that extra little bit of immersion.

I also have no idea why it needs to be online all the time, apart from Ubisoft collecting data. The fact you can't play the single player without being online is a joke.

    8/10
