Dark Cloud 2: Dark Chronicle I finished the first game about half a year ago and based on general reviews and opinions I expected this game to blow its precursor out of the water. Much to my surprise, I loved the first game much more in many regards. Its weapon upgrade system is superior, better georama, built in systems that add a certain tension in dungeons (extra floors, weapon chests). The gameplay, graphics and style are improved for the most part in 2 (although I felt current villages were boring compared to their future parts). I did feel the pacing was much better, but lacking the wow moments of finding a diamond in a extra floor or finding weapons in the first two dungeons in part one. Stevie (the robot) felt like a stupid inclusion and inventions did not interest me much for the most part. Making pictures was allright but without a guide cumbersome. 500 pictures is simply too much especially since so many are missables and hard to find. Spheda a golf minigame replacing extra floors as the main method of recieving gems was just stupid. No way to reset the minigame leading to a forced clear of the whole floor again to retry (a random course). There are some great moments with the golf game but a lack of clarity (hitting halfway the power bar does not mean you reach half the indicated meters) meant it was my biggest source of irritation in the whole game. Story is allright, much better then the first game. Sadly, recruited characters sometimes miss a nice backstory so you dont care much about them. Collecting them was a fun distraction generally though. I give the game a 7.5, leaning to a 7 at worst and 8 at its peak. Edited by Rajin at 01:47:35 20-07-2021 |
