I've had the same problem with three sets, all drifting. So far I've sent two single left joy-cons in for repair - one after the other - and both have been repaired free of charge despite them being bought in 2017. I don't know if it helps, but I've been able to provide them with original email receipts for both sets.
So, despite sending them in for fixes (one I've sent in twice) and working for a short time, all three of my left joy-cons are still drifting so I no longer have any faith in the official fixes. Tried to get replacements but they are asking me to send the whole Switch in, which I'm really not comfortable doing (not least as it's used pretty much every day by the family for Animal Crossing and Fortnite). Plus, I don't think that's the answer as they drift whether docked or undocked.

Any suggestions of what to do, besides shelling out for new ones?
