You can actually skip the speach, on the ship you can select the tall tale from the quest table where you vote and get things moving straight away. You do still have to sail to the island again though. Only just done the first tall tale myself, which I enjoyed and is a much better entry point for anyone wanting to give the game a try..

But the game is still very different from most and I think Rare forgets that not everyone, especially the newcomers will be in tune to how everything works and the basic in game meta.. I read they've made a separate team to focus on reducing that initial confusion and cost of entry, just a shame they've only realised they needed it 3 years down the line.
