Is there any similar game nowadays I should be aware of? The kind that truly rewards team work over individual skills? I tried Battleborn this weekend but wasn't hooked, not sure where else to look.

I actually agree with this. Shadowrun was superb and had a really great community in the main. There were very tactical decisions in team composition and the characters all played very differently. I have many fond memories... Fuck katana elves though seriously...
