I don't think we have too much to worry about at the opposite end of the age perspective. Sure 18 year old's are pretty much functional idiots but they will learn eventually and it's about having a say in the society you will have to live with.

For the elderly its about having a say in a society you probably don't really understand very well and are about to leave. There will be a great many pro leave elderly that are never going to have to live with the consequences of their desire to live in the past.
