Bit of a head scratcher how a large part of the British "press" (including remain leaning ones) seem to completely misinterpret Merkel's "concession" from last night. I always thought Brits were masters in subtle, understated humour (although they seem big fans of Mrs Brown so maybe times have changed on that, too...) so should've had no problems in getting the message correctly.

All she basically said was "you want the impossible? No worries, you go for it, mate - and I'll raise you by saying come back to me in 30 days and we can talk I guess. Lol".

And Bojo took the bait like a naive child. Laughable.
Merkel did what Merkel does best; politics. She outmanoeuvred bojo at his own blame game. Bojo has been crying everywhere that the EU won't play ball and that it's all their fault. Now the ball is back in his court with one simple statement and he is still fucked. All she said was; you have 30 days to come up with something better and we'll have a look at it. He won't. Not in 30 days. The best is that Merkel made him commit to it on live television, broadcasted across the EU.

It's literally a win-win for the EU. Either bojo has the blame or he does some magic hat trick and the EU gets a better deal.

The whole good cop / bad cop routine between Merkel and Macron was also quite blatant.
