The gym situation is so awful now - everything is just stagnating. I've had a Pokemon in a gym for about 10 days now, which would just never have happened before. Before the change I could pop out for a few hours and take 4-5 gyms, and a few hours later they'd be gone again. Now every gym is so huge it's just impossible. Of all the changes they've made this is definitely the worst.
