I’m feeling fairly flat on this, put a lot of time in now but not really enjoying it like I did FM4 (or Horizon 3).

The handling is wonderful on a pad, it’s what keeps me going, but as an offline racer the sheer terribleness of the AI is killing it, it’s incredible how far backwards racing driver AI has gone in 10 years. GTR2 was so much better even on user built tracks.

That, and the bizarre programming choices. A few examples other than the obvious ‘plough through you if you stop on the racing line’ trait indicitive of poor AI.

    1) AI cars will start to ease off on the penultimate lap, then really hold back on the final lap. It kills the immersion and effort put in if you were gradually reeling them in but then just coast past as soon as they hit their final lap wall.

    2) Ridiculous fuel load imbalances have driven me to switch off tyre wear/fuel, which removes much of the point of endurance races. Some cars cannot even complete a ‘Long Race’ without pitting where as two thirds of the AI field will easily finish without stopping.

    3) Ramping the difficulty to the top couple of tiers does little but seemingly increase the acceleration and top speed of AI cars to unrealistic levels. Again a complete immersion breaker and will often result in the lead car driving off into the distance

    4) The AI is incredible on the brakes but slow through corners, meaning the best (least shunty) option is to either brake off-line or brake deep into the corner and compromise your exit. Not the quickest way through a corner, but often the best way to complete a clean overtake or not get rear ended.
