As a teacher in China, I'm basically hired because I'm a white British male. The Filipino lady before me wasn't offered a new contract because, well, she wasn't white. She was also probably a much better teacher than I ever will be. Because I'm mega shit. I'm well aware I'm getting hired because of the colour of my skin, rather than my ability as a teacher. It feels shit. The wad of cash at the end of the month helps though. The school would be in a much better place educationally if they hired the best teachers. |
