It's just so uninspired. Unless you're a fan of Halo, there's zero to make people sit up and take note.

Currently having a run through Halo 5 for the first time since launch and the story or rather how it's delivered to the player is still an absolute abomination. That said, free from launch week blues, I can appreciate the combat loop and feel of the weapons is probably up there with the best it's been. The new enemy race has been improved massively and its had me hooked.

Even the story has the basis of something special. Having Cortana go rouge after being exposed to the core of the ancient alien technology you've been chasing and exporing for 20 years... With a kill team chasing the chief as he fights to save her... It should have been epic. With the kind of funding 343 has behind it, it's mind blowing how poorly its delivered.

I think I've said similar before in this thread, but 343 still don't seem to know how to take the series forward. They're trying to capture the original Halo or what made it so popular so they bring the masses back... failing to realise that 20 years ago we were playing on our N64's. Seeing and playing Halo for the first time was mind blowing graphically and felt the closest we could to being a hulking great space marine kicking ass. The combat loop was great, but it was the detail.. the fidelity that sold it to millions.

They're still using the angular design of the original Halo to appeal, when it was purely a lack of processing power on the original xbox that prompted it, using animations and enemies that are seemingly unchanged in 20 years.. The assault rife should sound like a machine gun held by a 8ft tall space marine and sounds like a spud gun.

Reboot it, use the might of Microsoft and 343 to turn up the graphical fidelity to 11 and make us feel like a hulking space marine again ripping terrifying aliens to pieces. Weapon handing that puts Black to shame, hell even add a great big dollop of 40k darkness and bleakness to the whole thing.
