Is it really that weird though? He saw the vile abuse she was getting, thought it be nice to setup a page and maybe raise a few quid to show not everyone was like that, then it took off. He's trying, with JustGiving's help, to contact the family so they can decide where the money should go. It's you assuming he is on a heroic crusade. It's you suggesting he's a peado.
