I cannot believe that any adult, who has ever eaten in a restaurant that isn't McDonalds or Burger King, hasn't seen people tip. I just consider borderline mandatory, at least to conform with social norms. I would always tip in a restaurant. In fact, I've often even left a tip when I thought the service was sub-par.

That said, I really would love to see tips become a thing of the past and do disagree with them in principal. I'd rather see higher prices, better wages, and do away with the social awkwardness of tips. I do also think it's bizarre how people tend to tip some roles, but not others. No one tips the shelf stacker, no one gets a filling and says to their dentist, "here mate, there a couple of quid". Restaurants are probably the most understandable, alongside delivery drivers, but who decided hairdressers should be tipped for example? What for, doing their job and cutting your hair? It's not like they are waiting on you hand and foot (my wife's cousin is a hairdresser and rakes in a fortune in tips).
