I thought they retconned/back engineered the plot points in TLJ pretty well. They made Snoke effectively a puppet of the emperor (notice the various Snoke clones in the glass tube). Rey's parents being explained away as nobodies was true, "from a certain point of view", because they where - just like Shmi was. Whether this was planned to be part of the trilogy or not, if it can be explained in a justifiable way, then it doesn't matter does it? I mean, some guy was complaining that it was obvious that Chewie didn't die in the transporter. Personally I thought it was a cheap bit of subterfuge. But I glance at my eleven year old daughter, and she's welling up. So when I think back to these conversations we have about the inner workings of the films - and that's not to say they're invalid (this being a discussion board and all), I just think 'fuck it, I wish I could just accept what I see rather than analysing the cogwheels behind it all.
