I want to like this. I enjoyed Flight Sim 98 back in the day, and when this came out on PC it was what made me subscribe to Gamepass, and was even one of the factors in taking the leap to buy an RTX 3080. However it was unplayable in so many ways, just installing the thing took the best part of a week, it kept breaking and I'd need to reinstall, load times were taking upwards of ten minutes even though I had a very fast SSD, I don't know if they eventually fixed all the issues but I gave up on it.

Thought I'd have another go on my Series X and it was just as problematic initially, the menus didn't work at all, I couldn't actually do anything, until eventually I found out the fix was to delete all my save data from the PC. So, finally got in and it's playable, albeit with awkward controls... but I'm just not seeing the wow factor everyone seems to get?

I did the discovery flight of Giza, and it's just a very basic flat sand coloured plain with some low-poly pyramids on it. Obviously it's impressive that they can stream the whole world in, but at any given time for the tiny piece of the world you can actually see, it doesn't look all that much better than scrolling around Google Earth. I'm pretty sure I remember Flight Sim 98 impressing me more relative to the standards of the day.

Maybe I'm just bitter because it was so much hassle to actually get in, and then the first thing everyone seems to do is find their house but mine is just a brown field because it was built 3 years ago and I guess their maps are quite out of date.
