@Kami I had another go at it last night for the speedrun and it really is so much easier if you use the claw properly. On my first playthrough I was jumping all over the place like a madman. Duh! Absolutely loved it once I knew how to get through all the sections, although I wasn't brave enough to jump through the goomba tower--I just waited for them all to get stuck at the bottom
