this is quite an interesting lead - a type of blood pressure medication called ACE inhibitors potentially responsible for making symptoms worse. Millions of people take them the world over, and there’s an emerging theory that rather than the high blood pressure itself being the biggest risk (It’s often normal in patients who take BP meds), possibly the medicine itself gives the virus more receptors on which to attach to lung cells. In Italy particularly, patients with controlled BP who are otherwise healthy have been found to be much more at risk of a poor outcome. It’s just a theory at this stage but there’s a significant correlation.
It’s talked about here from 10:25 onwards
