Oooh I get to do one of them there “I was today years old” thingies. I was today years old when I learned that it’s LFD not LFT and the D stands for Device.
The reason why Device and from there LFD is used is that LFT is already in common NHS use for Liver Function Test.

Man I had to do a home LFT recently... puncturing a hole in my finger with some nasty little contraption, then having to stand there and literally "milk" blood out of it into a little vial was one of the weirdest things ever. You have to get the vial up to the top but it wasn't coming out very fast, I had to start trying to force blood from my forearm into my hand to get it out. It's now my worst experience in the LFx range of medical practices.
