This was a great game, but it's clear the development shortcuts From had to take with some of the world's final bosses placed straight after the previous boss, or just plain easy (Old Monk, Dragon God etc). It's cool to see how it laid the foundations for Dark Souls and beyond.

You can cheese him in the dumbest way imaginable.

Put on the Thief Ring, and immediately after entering the fog, just wait by the door. He will not come after you, instead he will wait at the top of the stairs with his back turned.

You can go stand 5 yards behind him and repeatedly cast Poison Cloud until he dies, and he will not react in any way.
