Hello! Very longtime lurker and infrequent poster here... At work I use two 24" monitors to give me an extended desktop (we are still using Windows 7). Whilst working at home recently I have been using an 8 year old Dell UltraSharp 60hz 1080p monitor (which I had no justification to replace until it dies), but I am missing the additional space that the dual setup gives me. I have now been told by my employer to prepare myself to be working from home for the rest of the year. I have managed to find stock of the AOC 24G2U from Amazon in mainland Europe and it should be here next week. This seems to be the most highly rated 144hz 1080p monitor that will still fit alongside my existing screen on my desk. What I can't quite establish is whether I would be able to power both screens from my GPU and be able to use different refresh rates or will the 144hz screen be locked to 60hz? Both monitors will be connected using DisplayPort and my graphics card is an MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X. The other option that seems to be a possibility is forcing the onboard graphics to "on" in the BIOS and then powering the 60hz screen from that, but I'm not sure how that will behave with logging into the Windows 7 desktop for work. I should add that I have no interest in using both screens whilst gaming (as I presume both screens will be locked at 60hz) - relegating the 60hz screen to a secondary screen is only for productivity purposes. Would appreciate any insight anyone has - thank you! Edited by orangepants at 11:29:25 31-05-2020 |
