As a result of Ronnie leaving they'll be more variation in our play this season and no need for a player to cover for his lack of tracking back. Carlos did a lot of this and his workrate is probably the main reason he was loved so dearly by the numpties that inhabit a large chunk of OT these days (the same tossers that booed The Berb & Fergie end-of-season speech). While we'll miss some of his qualities to a certain degree, we won't miss his paltry goal return (though granted he had a knack for the odd important one) or his appalling first touch that often brought our attacks to a grinding halt. What we do need more than anything after Ronnie's departure is goals and - much as as I'm conflicted about him being at the club in the first place - Owen will score plenty if we provide him with the chances (and if he stays fit). Certainly more than Tevez would provide, if played in a similar position. The midfield and creating the chances is what I'm more worried about. Carrick needs to take his attacking games to the next level, Nani & Anderson need to step up and we need one final indian summer from the ginger maestro and Giggs. A fit Hargreaves would be a bonus. Would love to see us play Anderson in his natural position this season, rather than continually try to turn him into a DM. |
