    I can't remember when mine actually started. But I did go see a lot of live bands locally and at larger venues. Plus my local indie/goth/metal punk/etc club was a weekly haunt - so most likely this is where is all started for me.

    I did wear earplugs eventually so may have staved off more permanent damage. Well that's what I was hoping for anyway. Nowadays it sits in the background and doesn't feel that intrusive even at night.

    I haven't tried any techniques to distract myself to not hearing the whining. I think for the time I 've had it maybe my brain has adjusted to the tinnitus and kind of compensated for it.

    Though I do get irked when you get a high pitch tone and a moment of deafness in your ear. I think I've lost a fair bit of low frequency ranges due to the damage. Still love music though not so much the slowly going deaf ;)

    Try not to let it get to you - not easy I know. If anything learn how to accept the condition seek help and you can get used to it. Hopefully not get any worse.
