I discovered a hack today on Returnal that has been a game changer for me, if you just stick with the pistol (and its even better if you have homing missiles) Just quickly tap fire instead of holding it down, your ROF pretty much doubles and it totally chews enemies up (even the orange elite enemies that sometimes spawn)
