It's not all a bed of roses by any stretch, but I'd never change having kids. I had my first a few months before I turned 30, and my 2nd just short of 4 years later. No regrets, and they bring a lot of joy and love. They also bring additional costs, worries, challenges, arguments etc, but it's definitely worth it IMHO. As someone who is a natural worrier though, my main challenge isn't the day to day handling of them. It's the additional pressure on, for example, ensuring you have job security. If it was just me and my wife, we could ultimately downsize, live anywhere, and get by ok on relatively slim pickings. With 2 kids, you'd inherently need a bigger home, they have their own costs, you'd want to keep them close to their school, close to their friends, and not miss out. I've no reason to think my situation would change anytime soon, but thoughts like that could drive you nuts. I will say, I'm glad I had kids before I was in my 40s (which I recently hit). It's definitely a young person's game. |
