Kids > toddlers > babies. Our experience was that it's an exhausting, stressful mess at the start, until they can sleep during the night-time, talk, walk, feed themselves, *not* shit themselves, etc. etc. Everyone's suited to different things though - we both wanted "kids", but neither of us are baby people, so for us the period up until the youngest was about four was very much an investment in future years rather than something we wanted in itself. Not everyone's like that. We've got three and while more of them is more work I'd say it's diminishing impact. Going from zero to one was like a hammer blow to the head, adding another was more to deal with but nothing categorical changed because the big changes had already happened and the third was just a bit more of the same. |
