If I buy a 4K TV and use it for 1080p content (movies/games) is it going to look a bit nasty?

Games used to look pretty fuzzy at below the native resolution of my old LCD PC monitor. But reading online suggests the picture might be a bit nicer, or a bit worse, depending on the TV.

Any thoughts EG hivemind?
